A small and neatly appointed temple to the hamburger, DuMont Burger (spin of nearby Dumont) offers a full bar, beer on tap and a high-quality, lean beef burger served on a brioche-like bun. It is de-licious and de-luxe in here. Step into a cheerful space where the brick has been meticulously cared for and accented with smooth wood and stone work, soft lighting and an interesting mix of music in the background. Friendly staff make you feel right at home as you belly up to the bar.

Notes on De-luxe: Like the “deluxe” burger many of us here in New York know so well, the DuMont burger does come with lettuce pickles, onions and tomatoes. But don’t expect the wilted and tasteless to appear on your plate. The burgers are served with two types of pickles; bread-and-butter and dill, both crisp, with that home-canned feel. The lettuce is green bib, the onions sweet purple and the tomato red beefsteak. If it is cheese you are looking for, try the blue or the gruyere (or mix them together on the same burger – it is delicious). You can choose fries or a salad, but try the fries, served with a sprinkling of fresh parsley and a crisp, fresh potato taste. They will not disappoint.

Other offerings: The menu sports a mac-n-cheese, which is made with radiatore pasta (the cork-screw type), a veggie burger, a chicken sandwich and a fish sandwich. Onion rings are also available.

Desserts: Apple crumble and Giant Chocolate Chip cookie top the list. If you can’t manage the Giant Chocolate Chip Cookie right away, get it to go. It’s a great late night treat to share.

Special notes: The full bar has several varieties of Stoli vodka, a ruby port, and some specialty liqueurs. On tap are Jever, Yeungling, and Lagunitas. Best to go alone or with a friend who is not overly concerned about personal space. The thirty-odd stools are packed around the bar and the narrow tables. The much-appreciated, trapezoidal bathroom features slate stonework and stainless steel, along with real hot water.
